Creating an Effective Instructional Video

To help my Algebra students struggling with exponential functions, I created a short Desmos tutorial video. I used Restream to record my screen and voiceover, focusing on a specific problem that many students had encountered.

I used the following 5 key steps to produce my screencast:

  1. Content Selection:I identified a specific problem area (graphing exponential functions) and focused on a key example.
  2. Screen Recording:I utilized Restream to record my screen, incorporating Desmos as the primary tool.
  3. Video Editing: I edited the video to remove unnecessary pauses and tangents, resulting in a more focused and efficient tutorial.
  4. Visual Enhancements:I added a title slide, arrows, and text highlights to guide viewers’ attention.
  5. Audio and Visual Clarity:I ensured clear audio and visual presentation to enhance the learning experience.

By using a user-friendly tool like Restream and focusing on clear communication, I was able to create a helpful resource for my students. My students received the additional support and help needed to better understand the concept of exponential functions in a short period of time. This project demonstrates my ability to leverage technology to create effective instructional materials.
